My story, I’ve always enjoyed writing but was never a good student. I had to go to adult school to get my high school diploma. After that I languished, working a collection of odd jobs that always ended with my being fired. Eventually, I found my way into technology, an industry I figured wasn’t going anywhere. The dream of becoming a writer was just that, a dream.

During the pandemic, I decided to take a few classes at the local college, pursuing a degree in journalism. The next semester, I took a few more. Eventually, I found myself as a writer/editor for the Fullerton College newspaper, The Hornet. It was one of those moments in life when you know, you have found your people. I eventually transferred to California State University, Fullerton where I will be graduating this Spring with a degree in communications. Go Titans!

I’ve taken all kinds of different writing classes, I've written hard news, feature stories, essays, and my personal favorite, screenplays. Much of what’s on this blog are things I wrote for a class but I hope to add to that now that I have more time to write. The articles section is where you’ll find mostly feature stories I’ve written; I prefer feature writing to hard news. Essays are where I’ll have more evergreen content. Opinion pieces will be focused on in-the-moment reactions, and the screenplay section will feature scenes from a handful of the screenplays I've written. If you’re curious how a story ends feel free to ask.

If you’ve read this far thank you. I hope you enjoy my work and let me know if you find any typos, I don’t have an editor.

Regards,

Dustin Malek
